Medical Transcription is a profession in itself. It assumes a good knowledge of medical terminology and many self-employed professionals offer this service working from home, typing case notes for Doctors, in most cases for Specialists.
Medical Terminology is not a prerequisite (the course includes the base Medical Terminology units). It is recommended that the enrolling student be a competent typist before enrolment, recommended at least 50wpm, as the competency assessment for this course requires the student to prove 70wpm. Successful participants will receive statements of attainment from Certificate III Business Administration (Medical) BSB31107. The units covered include: BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately, BSBADM411 Produce complex texts from audio transcription (for this unit the student is required to provide official proof of being able to type for 5 minutes, 70+ wpm with 98% accuracy), BSBRES401 Analyse and present research information, BSBWRT401 Write complex documents and BSBITU307 Develop keyboarding speed and accuracy (for this unit the student is required to provide official proof of being able to type for 5 minutes with 98% accuracy) - please contact assessor for details. Course begins on enrolment.
All assessments are via distance. The duration of the course, which begins on enrolment, is twenty four (24) weeks.
